The treacly praise being heaped on the so-called “intelligence” community by some members of Congress and many in the media could inflict a diabetic coma on an otherwise healthy person. It is corrupted and the problem starts at the top. I am referring to Jim Clapper and John Brennan. They are proven liars. Donald Trump is absolutely on solid ground to doubt anything these two scoundrels claim to be true.
Let’s recall what Clapper said under oath to Senator Ron Wyden on 12 March 2013:
“Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?”
Director Clapper responded “No, sir.”
Incredulously, Senator Wyden asked “It does not?”
Director Clapper responded “Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertantly perhaps collect, but not wittingly.”
Three months later Edward Snowden exposed Clapper’s mendacity when he leaked Top Secret material showing that the NSA was engaged in a secret program to collect tens of millions of Americans’ phone call records. But the NSA programs were not limited to phone calls; collection also includedAmericans’ web browsing histories, chat logs, email usage and even their physical locations.
And then there is John Brennan. He is a liar. Don’t take my word for it, let’s go to the New York Times:
It is hard to believe anything Mr. Brennan says. Last year, he bluntly denied that the CIA had illegally hacked into the computers of Senate staff members conducting an investigation into the agency’s detention and torture programs when, in fact, it did. In 2011, when he was President Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, he claimed that American drone strikes had not killed any civilians, despite clear evidence that they had.
When you have immoral, corrupt leaders like Clapper and Brennan sitting at the top of the chain of command in the intelligence community, you should not be surprised when the personnel start reflecting those same values. The so-called “revelations” about alleged Russian hacking of the 2016 Presidential election must be taken with a grain of salt. How can you tell the report is not true? It is leaked to NBC and the Washington Post while John Brennan refused to brief the House Intelligence Committee. Got that?
There are still people of integrity on the inside, but their voices have been muted and the careers of some have been harmed because of their refusal to indulge in the lying and deception. I sincerely do not know if Trump can fix such a broken system.
UPDATE–The unclassified version of the so-called report on alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election is out and it is a damn joke. Pathetic. I am working on a longer piece.
