The title for this piece may appear a bit over the top, but stick with me. The details are shocking.
Let us start with Obama’s Director of the CIA, John Brennan, who is now on the record with National Public Radio with the most astonishing claim:
BRENNAN: We don’t steal secrets. Everything we do is consistent with U.S. law. We uncover, we discover, we reveal, we obtain, we elicit, we solicit. All of that.
Nonsense! This is absurd. Brennan sounds like a pimp running a whorehouse who insists that he’s not selling sex.
If the CIA is doing its job properly it is stealing information and encouraging people to break laws. Just not U.S. laws or at least not in a U.S. jurisdiction.
A retired CIA Officer, John Sipher, has written an excellent piece summarizing the astonishment at Brennan’s mentality:
Let me be clear. Despite what Mr. Brennan says, what my colleagues and I did in the CIA was espionage – stealing secrets. We didn’t “discover,” we stole. Our sources were not taxi drivers, social media feeds, or newspapers. They were people with access to secrets who were well aware that they were risking their lives, and possibly those of their families, to steal information for the U.S.
The CIA steals secrets and will always need to do so. We don’t do it for fun or because we can. The clandestine arm of the CIA is the collector of last resort. The USG should use all means—open, technical, and diplomatic—to gather the information it needs to inform policy. Collecting information openly is certainly preferable to stealing it. However, if a critical piece of information is determined in our national interest and nobody else can get it, we have to steal it. The officers of the clandestine service take their responsibilities seriously and often put themselves in harm’s way to get the job done. We are not always successful, and sometimes create political scandals, but we succeed more often that the public knows.
Also, for those of us in the business, it is hard to fathom why a CIA Director would even bother to claim that he doesn’t steal secrets. Our adversaries are not likely to take him at his word. Further, we don’t really get to define what counts as espionage and what doesn’t. Other countries decide what constitutes treachery and secrecy in their countries. As far as I know, every country in the world views espionage as a crime and punishes those who engage in it with prison or death. I certainly took my responsibility seriously and worked diligently to protect those in my care – always well aware of what would happen to them if caught. No government in the world would see what we did as “discovering or eliciting” information consistent with their laws. We scrupulously followed U.S. law, while consistently breaking foreign laws.
Brennan’s approach to espionage is naive, childish and a danger to America. If you are not aggressively working to penetrate real threats and are acting instead like a desk bound investigative journalist you are failing in the mission of getting the secrets that count.
Worse than the childish approach to intelligence by Brennan is the Obama’s team demonstrated willingness to play with the lives of Special Ops personnel by leaking classified, sensitive information that will put these people at risk.
Yesterday’s New York Times (March 1st edition) reported the following–U.S. Captures ISIS Operative, Ushering in Tricky Phase. The information in this article now puts the lives of our soldiers at risk in my opinion:
An elite American Special Operations force has captured a significant Islamic State operative in Iraq and is expected to apprehend and interrogate a number of others in coming months, ushering in a new and potentially fraught phase in the fight against the extremist Sunni militant group.
Why in the hell is the Obama Administration announcing or leaking this information? There is no compelling public interest at stake. This is not information the public needs to know. And it is certainly information we should not be telling to ISIS. They may have learned that one of their top guys disappeared but U.S. Special Ops forces do not leave calling cards saying that, “Delta Force was here and we captured your Bubba.”
But the Obama crowd compounds the error with this tidbit:
The 200-member Special Operations team, made up of many Delta Force commandos, arrived in Iraq in recent weeks and is the first major American combat force on the ground there since the United States pulled out of the country at the end of 2011.
Defense officials said the team had set up safe houses and worked with Iraqi and Kurdish forces to establish informant networks and conduct raids on Islamic State leaders and other important militants.
Not only are we telling the enemy about U.S. troop movements but we are including specific identifying information. Put yourselves in the shoes of an ISIS commander. Knowing this now would you step up your efforts to locate the U.S. force and ambush it? I know that I would if I were an ISIS operative.
The DOD and the Obama White House created further danger:
Defense Department officials say the commandos, referred to at the Pentagon as a “specialized expeditionary targeting force,” will almost certainly increase the intelligence on the Islamic State available to the United States, including information about current operations extracted from laptops and cellphones.
Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, has said the commandos are to “go and scoop up paperwork and hard drives and other information that can be critical to our ongoing efforts as a central part of this strategy.”
Yeah, let’s tell the bad guys what are guys are going to do? So, you are going swoop in and scoop up papers and hard drives. Okay, want don’t we bait a trap and wire hard drives and mounds of paper with explosives. Another way to ambush U.S. forces now that we know how they are going to operate.
One more example of the recklessness of the Obama crowd with sensitive information:
Senior Defense Department officials said the model for handling detainees seized by the new commando unit was a Delta Force raid in May, when two dozen American commandos from Iraq entered Syria aboard Black Hawk helicopters and V-22 Ospreys and killed Abu Sayyaf, described by American officials as the Islamic State’s emir for oil and gas. Abu Sayyaf’s wife, Umm Sayyaf, was captured and taken to a screening facility in Iraq, where she was questioned and detained. American forces seized laptop computers, cellphones and other materials from the site.
There you go ISIS. Merry Christmas. You now know some of the tactics and procedures of our Special Operations units. And it is from official sources no less.
You know why Obama and his craven team of morons are leaking this? Very simple. The United States is getting its ass handed to it by the Russians in Syria. U.S. policy in the region is a smoldering pile of festering excrement. This is nothing more than a desperate propaganda ploy by the Obama Administration to appear important and relevant. And they have no second thoughts–hell, they don’t even have a first thought–about putting U.S. troops at risk in order to satisfy their own political ambitions.
There is another name for this. I believe it is, “treason.”
